Small details that make the journey better

01

Look

Do not leave as soon as you have seen the headline sight. Give yourself time for architecture, everyday life around it and the changing light.

02

Listen and ask

A short story from a local guide, attendant or host often reveals more than a sign. Remember to ask before taking someone's photograph.

03

Add something nearby

Pair the main stop with a park, market, food address or cultural venue nearby. The day becomes fuller and much more memorable.

Opened in 2008, the mosque is among the most visible structures of reconstructed central Grozny. Together with the park, square, river and Grozny City skyline it forms the contemporary postcard image. Its name refers to Akhmat Kadyrov, and its official and political context should not be detached from its architecture.

A central dome, four minarets, arcaded façades, stone cladding and rich interiors establish a clear visual relationship with Ottoman mosque architecture. It is experienced as a broad religious-urban complex of building, ceremonial space and landscape.

The mosque is first an active place of worship. Avoid disrupting prayer, dress modestly, follow shoe and entrance arrangements, speak quietly and ask before photographing people. Visiting hours and gendered areas should be confirmed locally.
